Free a Logical Log File
Status A
If a log file is newly added (status A), create a level-0 archive to activate the
log file and make it available for use.
Status U
If a log file contains records but is not yet backed up (status U), execute
tbmode -a tobackup the logfromthecommand line, or(if you arelogged in
as user informix) select the Logical-Logs menu, Auto-Backup option. (Refer
to page 3-36.)If backingup thelog filedoes not free it, its statusis eitherU-B
or U-B-L. Refer to the following subsections.
Status U-B
If a logfile is backedupbut unreleased(status U-B), sometransactions in the
log file are still underway. If you do not want to wait until the transactions
complete,takeOnLinetoquiescentmode(ImmediateShutdown).Anyactive
transactions are rolled back.
Status U-C
If you want to free the current log file (status C), execute tbmode -l from the
command line to switch to the next available log file. Now back up the log
file. If the log file is still not free, its status is U-B.
If you are logged in as user informix, a second option is to request the Auto-
BackupoptionfromtheDB-MonitorLogical-Logsmenu.Afterallfulllogsare
backed up, you are prompted to switch to the next available logical log file
and back up the formercurrent log file. The logfile statusthus changes from
U-C to U-B. (It is possible, if all transactions in the former current log file are
closed, that this action would change the status from U-C to F.)
Status U-B-L
A special case exists in which alog fileis notfreedeven thoughthe log file is
backed up to tape and all transactions within are closed. This special case is
indicated by log status L, which means that this logical log file contains the
most recent checkpoint record in the logical log on disk.
